Child & Family Services

The key focus for our CF&S team is to provide holistic, culturally safe, child and family focused services to the Aboriginal communities of the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Far South Coast and Goulburn areas. C&FS provides the whole continuum of
care for children, young people and their families including:

•    Early Intervention
•    Family Preservation
•    Out of Home Care
•    Family Connect & Support
•    Therapeutic Services
•    Psychology, Social Work and Mentor Support

We support Aboriginal Foster Care placements for children and young people aged 0-18 years. We have offices in Nowra, Batemans Bay, Goulburn and Bega. From these offices, we support Foster Care placements in the Shoalhaven, and down to the Victorian border.

Caseworkers, in partnership with our Foster Carer’s, provide support services to children who are unable to live safely with their birth families. We strive to place children and young people in a safe, well-functioning, stable foster home allowing them to develop to the best of their potential.

We work closely with birth parents and family members, and encourage participation in permanency decisions, with the goal of restoration. We also adhere to the Office of the Children’s Guardian strict guidelines.

Family Preservation

Our Family Preservation team's primary focus is to provide dedicated support to Aboriginal children, young people, and their families, with the ultimate goal of keeping families together. We are committed to building safe and loving family environments and delivering services that specifically benefit Aboriginal families.

Our team aims to identify and address the issues that are impacting each family, offering long-term support for a duration of up to two years. We aim to assist parents in creating a safe and nurturing environment, supporting the wellbeing and happiness of their children and families.

Within our Family Preservation program, we offer a range of services, including:

  1. Development and Implementation of Family Action Plans: We collaborate with families to create personalized action plans that address their specific needs and goals.

  2. Access to Childcare and Other Services: We assist families in accessing essential services such as childcare, healthcare, educational resources, and other support systems.

  3. Access to Cultural Activities: We recognize the importance of cultural connection and provide opportunities for families to engage in meaningful cultural activities.
